Here's mine:

1. The Shawshank Redemption

2. American History X

3. The LOTR Trilogy (yeah i cheated )

Oh man, i thought it would be easier.. These are just from the top of my head. I'm sure I can find a dozen more to replace these with

It's a shitty question. I've been trying to set my favourite movies in a certain order, but it's really hard. So, let's say that 3 of my all-time favourite movies are (no specific criteria for this particular order):

1. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
2. Schindler's list
3. Forrest gump

Tryed to cover more than one type...

Well, difficult to say.
I can agree with you on "Shawshank Redemption", great movie, great actors. Of course, Stephen King is here, too. I would say exactly the same as you, but I'll try to dig up some original posting here... I also mention "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Braveheart".
Still, I think movie must have certain circumstances to have the maximum effect. I've seen a lot of movies in bad moments and couldn't appreciate them... There are certainly a few other tens of movie I should have mentioned, but not in a top 3.

Yea that about sums it up for my top three because they are movies I can watch over and over and over again and never get tired of them.
